Book Turned into a video game
(A Game of Thrones)

Video games have come a long way in the past ten years. There used to be a time where the story wasn't that important in a game. Well, that's because there complexity of game really wasn't there. Side scrollers don't really need a whole lot of story.

But, nowadays games are very very complex and rich in story, history, and even back story.

And gamers really thrive on this complexity. It's interesting and it enriches the whole gaming experience.

And that leads me to this article about the new game based on the Game of Thrones book by George R.R. Martin. It is a wonderfully thick and complex series of epic fantasy books.

The first book in the series is "A Song of Ice and Fire" And this is the book that the game is based on.

The Story is the Most Important thing in a video game

Ok, There is an important thing that I want to talk about in this article and I have already touched on it a bit. It is the concept and fact of the story being a critical part of a video game. I get a lot of email from people who want to make video games. And for the most part they talk about the software, the look, the characters and the action of the game.

And they almost never talk about the story!

That's ok though. When you are new to designing and developing video games there is an awful lot to learn. And mastering all of the various things takes a lot of time and effort. It is easy to overlook the story of the game. But, the story, in the end is the most important part of the game! It can make or break your game very easily.

Some Advice

If you are dreaming of developing a video game or you are currently in the process of developing a game I recommend you spend some time on the story. It is so important and it is very enjoyable. You will be surprised how things start to come together in the game when you have the story laid out.

The story is more than just the plot

The story is more than what happens from beginning to end. It is also the world, the places, the characters and the whole background of the world you are creating.
